On hyperlinks and hyperlinking

I think we need to encourage our students to make sure that every time they put a URL in a post, it is also an actual hyperlink. It is bad web form to write out a URL at all, but to do so without hyperlinking it is really unacceptable. I know we are dealing with some n00b5, but that makes it even more important for us to convey the importance of web standards now, set a good example ourselves and demand proper form from the beginning (too late!). Better late than never.

How do you link in Blogger. I added html to the student urls but they do not link. I'm missing something.

I've been out of pocket this afternoon, and just catching up. I Patrick, while it is always nice to add hyperlinks and it is easier on the user, I wouldn't call it bad practice or unacceptable to write out a URL. I've noticed, for instance, that it is difficult to add the html in some areas of the Google Group, and in parts of this blog as well.
Personally, I'd rather not waste my time wrestling it into submission and proving that I know the difference between html and xml. So what?
Speaking as someone who has run a few Websites and who edited a blog back before they were called blogs, I think the transparency of seeing the whole URL is often useful to help me understand where I am going before I go there.
Just my two cents.

Likewise, I like seeing the URL to know where I am going, but I hear your point, Patrick. I kinda feel like hyperlinking is the least of our worries (with the students) right now, but I will mention this to them.
